Good Habits Before Calling IT Support

Good Habits Before Calling IT Support

• 2 min

Just like people feel refreshed after a good night’s sleep, computers also benefit from a proper restart. This simple action often fixes many everyday issues without needing technical intervention.

Before picking up the phone or sending an email to IT support, try these quick steps:

1. Restart Your Computer
#

Close all your applications and restart via Start → Restart. A restart clears memory and restarts stuck processes.

Unlike some systems like Linux, Windows is not designed to run indefinitely without a restart. Even though computers are becoming faster and more powerful, a daily reboot is recommended for PCs to maintain good performance and apply necessary updates.

2. Check Your Internet Connection
#

Make sure your network cable or Wi-Fi is properly connected. Test another website to confirm the connection.

3. Inspect Your Peripherals
#

Check that your keyboard, mouse, printer, and monitor are properly plugged in and powered on. For USB devices, try unplugging and reconnecting them.

4. Close Unnecessary Applications
#

Too many open tabs or programs can slow down your system. Close anything you’re not actively using.
